Czech Republic Ambassador Visits Ethiopian Defence University to Strengthen Collaboration

Bishoftu, March 18, 2025 (EDU) Ethiopian Defence University (EDU) warmly welcomed H.E. Miroslav Kosek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ethiopia, in an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, research, and technology transfer.

During the visit, the Director of the International Relations and Institutional Cooperation Directorate provided a comprehensive presentation on the existing collaboration between Ethiopia and the Czech Republic, highlighting key areas for future engagement in military education, research, and technological advancement.

Brigadier General Kebede Regassa, President of EDU, underscored the university’s commitment to expanding its partnerships with Czech institutions. He highlighted critical areas such as joint research, aerospace engineering, armament development, and simulator upgrades, stressing the need for technical support to elevate Ethiopia’s military academic and technological capabilities.

``We need support to develop our 3D laboratories, AI laboratories, and electronics laboratories to keep pace with modern technological advancements,`` Kebede Regassa stated, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to strengthen the university’s research and innovation capabilities.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Bisrat Yosef, Vice President for Institutional Development and Business at EDU, also called for specialized cooperation in armament technology and aerospace engineering, particularly in the upgrading of simulators.

In response, Ambassador Miroslav Kosek expressed the Czech Republic’s eagerness to strengthen academic and technical cooperation with EDU, particularly in defense technology and research. He acknowledged the university’s ambitious vision for modernization and pledged to explore concrete avenues for collaboration.

Brigadier General Kebede Regassa also emphasized the critical need for support in military healthcare, specifically in military hospital development, trauma care, and telemedicine. He called for partnerships with Czech defense and medical institutions to improve Ethiopia’s military health services and emergency response systems.

The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to advancing military education, research, healthcare, and technological innovation through a strategic partnership between EDU and Czech institutions.
