The victory of an army depends on many factors, among which are; the size and quality of its military hardware, the number of skilled operators and the capability of maintaining, upgrading and indigenizing owned technologies. To acquire such capabilities the role of high caliber engineers in the army is inevitable.
With this perspective, the mission of the office is to educate and train young Ethiopian army members in various undergraduate and postgraduate engineering academic programs. The college also admitted students from the local civil communities and horn African countries in regular or non-regular skims. Currently, the college of Engineering has 11 academic departments, 22 B.Tech., 28 M.Tech. and 1 Ph.D. regular programs.
College of Engineering offers peculiar programs, such as: Aerospace Engineering, Armament Engineering, Military Vehicle Engineering, Electronic Warfare Technology, Communication and Radar Technology, Computer Science and Engineering,Cybersecurity, Metallurgy and Material Engineering etc…
The college has more than 60 laboratories and workshops equipped with the state of art facilities and experienced instructors and Teaching Assistants to provide skill based education. With a dedicated Quality Assurance Office, the teaching learning process monitored regularly to promote harmony between students and academic staffs. Our students also goes through various military training to acquire professional army attitude, which enable play their role under any circumstances.

Mission of The Office
To provide a quality education and training in various field of engineering which produce graduates who can design and implement innovative solutions and win in complex environment as trusted military professional.

Lt. Col. Bisrat Yoseph Gebreyesus (Ph.D.) joined Ministry of National Defence force of Federal Republic of Ethiopia as an army member in 1997 and did his B.Tech (1998-2001) in Mechanical Engineering, specialized in Automotive and Tank Technology at Defence University Collage, Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia. After that, he was a faculty staff in Defence Engineering College, Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia. He pursued his Master’s degree in Thermal Engineering, specializing in I.C Engines and Gas Turbines Technology at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India from 2003 to 2005. Then he joined back DU-CoE, Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia and worked as a lecturer and Head of Motor vehicle Engineering department. He has completed his Ph.D. study in the field of Mechanical Engineering specialized in Combustion Science and Technology from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India in 2017.Then jointed back to DU-CoE served as assistant professor and head of Motor Vehicle Engineering department. From Jan. 2021 appointed as academic dean of DU-COE.  He has participated in various research activities, member and coordinator of various committees and invited guest lecturer at various universities in the country ( AAST, ASTU, KIOT, DBU, MU, AMU).
