When the Defence Engineering College was first established in November 1997; Design, Manufacturing and Metallurgy Specializations were commenced under the Mechanical Engineering Division. In 2001, Division of Mechanical Engineering was restructured and again renamed as Faculty of Mechanical Engineering that incorporates the three Departments such as Design, Manufacturing and Metallurgical Technology till 2004. Then, Production Engineering department was established in 2004 by incorporating Mechanical Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering in the undergraduate program and Industrial Design and Manufacturing System Engineering in the post graduate program till now.
