Background nursing department
Nursing department is one of the departments under the Defence university college of health science that has a long history which comprise four sections.The four sections are:Nursing,Midwifery,Operation room theater nursing(OTN) and Psychiatry.
The Nursing section provides nursing with TVET and BSC programmes,the Midwifery section provides BSC in midwifery program,the OTN section provides BSC in OTN and the Psychiatry section provides BSC in psychiatry program.
The department offers professional degrees at undergraduate levels and it is a pool for other specialty, medicine and MSC health programs of the college. The department currently has over 150 students and around 20 full time faculty members.
In line with the mission and vision of the Defense University College of Health Science, the nursing department exercises unique roles in training highly skilled military health professionals in different specialty undergraduate programs.
Goals/Objectives of the Nursing department
The department of Nursing is committed to help students to acquire knowledge, Attitude, and skills through a systematic approach to learning. The programs in the department are based on the principle that nursing is a goal directed service derived from a scientific knowledge base for the purpose of assisting the individual, family and community to promote, restore and maintain health. Thus the strong emphasis on theory as a necessity for good practice is complemented by extensive practical and clinical experience in various settings of the defense. For this the College of health science believes that training of nurses at a higher level is indispensable
