The admission of students to Ethiopian Defence University for both postgraduate and undergraduate programs is based on the requirements set by the Ministry of Education and regulations of the Ethiopian Defence University senate legislation. Specific admission criteria for both programs are indicated in the curricula of each program. Students can be admitted in the regular or continuing education programs from various sources. These include army units/members, public willing to serve as members of army through direct recruitment, self-sponsored, scholarship basis, and foreign students. All candidates are expected to fulfill the military (for military personnel) and academic requirements. The military requirements are set by Ministry of Defense (MoD) and academic requirements are set yearly by Ministry of Education (MoE).
Admission to University takes into consideration:
Pass marks in the Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Examination (EHEEE);
Entrance examination results for advanced standing and postgraduate programs; this may also apply for other candidates as necessary.
Year of service in MoD whenever necessary and applicable;
