• Department of Law

The department of law is one of the recent programs launched under the College of Resource management in 2021. The department aimed at awarding Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB). The department is committed to the study of Ethiopian in a contextual manner, with a special focus on public laws in general and military law in particular. Apart from course works, the department organizes seminars on research and legal topics which have paramount relevance to the defence force.

Objective of the Program

General objectives

The general objective of the undergraduate program is to provide basic legal training to the students.

Specific objectives

 

Within the shadow of the general goal, the specific objectives of the program are to

  •  train lawyers  who can serve in  different work units of  MoD,
  • Train professionals who can deliver legal advice to MoD
  • educate  individuals  who  will be able to speak to and advise higher officials   with professionalism, understanding and responsibility;
  •  equip students with basic knowledge of major national legislations and procedures, along with the skills of  legal interpretation required to solve legal problems;
  • train professionals who undertake the technical aspects of drafting and revising laws;
  • enhance the critical thinking abilities of students so that they can understand and implement laws as judges, practicing lawyers, prosecutors, public defenders or academicians
  • Prepare dedicated persons who can research and publish, and hence reinforce Ethiopian legal jurisprudence.
  • Produce legal professionals with the highest heed to ethical values, who strive to defend rights and liberties and uphold the fundamentals of rule of
  • Comprehend the philosophical, historical, normative and jurisprudential foundations of human
  • Examine the observance of human rights in the administration of justice in a national, regional and global
  • Enhance the capacity of critically assessing legal, socio-legal and politico-legal materials for improved practice in the areas of human rights and
  • Convenient skills, such as effective communication to help them to be reflective life-long learners in human rights law and
  • Improve service delivery in occupations which necessitates knowledge of human rights and justice in a reasonable and sound judgment, personal responsibility and initiative under challenging professional
