- Department of Journalism and Communication
The Department of Journalism and Communication is one of the recently opened departments of College of Resource Management. It is a department that aims at promoting effective communication and journalism practices. It accommodates journalism and communication issues and relates it with military journalism which makes the profiles of the graduates peculiar. In addition to the theoretical inputs the department offers, the courses are supported by practical experiences that enhances the exposure of students to practical applications. The graduates can also work as liaison officers whenever there need be. The department also produces graduates who are capable of performing journalistic communication in the context of military institution and other scenarios.

General Objective
The College of Resource Management aims at producing journalists who are fit to work as news reporters and journalists capable of fulfilling the requirements of the work standards of the profession in the defence force. The curriculum also aspires to empower military personnel students and prompt them towards integrity, high ethical standards to use interpersonal and technically-driven communications in a multi-layered and multicultural world in the time of peace and war.
Specific Objectives
The specific objectives of the programme are:
- To produce graduates who are capable of delivering professional journalism and communication services to MoD
- To train graduates to become able and professional journalists during times of peace and war
- To make learners have all the necessary know how in electronic, print and new media
- To create students who are active participants in promoting the visions, missions and goals of MoD
- To develop characteristics of a professional military journalist in the trainees behavioral make up
- To make students functional in both electronic and print media
- To make learners become effective liaison officers whenever the need arises
- To arm the learners with all the necessary tools that will make them effective representatives of their institution
- To produce journalists and military PROs who can demonstrate versatility in serving as both journalists and public relations officers of MoD
- To produce journalists who possess versatile language skills in (English, Amharic and other local languages of their own)
- To create personalities who can change the traditional operations of the media functions of MoD and make it fit with the standards of the new era
